Reinventing the Wheel - Addendum: Quiet but Busy

Things are finally moving along with the Homegrown Blogging stuff. See http://www.geekicon.net/dev/ for a (partially) working example of all the technical gibberish I've been posting lately. I'm not sure if it perfectly validates as XHTML 1.0, and it's definitely a work in progress. We'll see how it goes. Note to MSIE users: it probably won't look very pretty in Internet Explorer. Maybe you should ponder Mozilla, which offers proper PNG graphic support. I've been using Firebird a lot lately, and have very very few complaints.

We make New Year's resolutions at the beginning of a new year. I'm going to make some blogging resolutions now, which will probably be just as successful as most people's New Year's ones.

Blogging Resolutions

  1. Stop apologizing for the inanity of my blog

Every personal blog is inane in some way or another at some point or another. It's a key element of personal blogging. Phrases like "my silly rantings," "my random thoughts" etc. and so on are not only getting cliché, but they're redundant in the first place.

  2. No longer maintain a blogroll on my main blog page

It's getting too big. I'm making a separate links/blogroll section. I don't want to pare down, because I want to get rid of links for reasons other than space issues. I also don't like the current set up, where I have a subset of links and another page with everything. It implies a partiality that really doesn't exist. So off they go. I know that it would be a controversial move for an alpha blogger, but since I'm not I can do whatever I want without sparking off flame wars about the linkedness of blogs, community, etc. and so on.

  3. In terms of design, I don't give a hoot about MSIE

Word to Microsoft: in terms of your web browser, you now officially suck in my book. I liked MSIE at one point. Then you pooped on me. So now I don't like it. I'm designing for Mozilla, and slowly but surely remembering to look at things in Opera. If my blog looks funny in MSIE, I don't care anymore, as long as it's mostly legible.

  4. In terms of content, I'm going to give myself more freedom of expression

I self-censor. At one point it wasn't a big deal because there were other outlets for that stuff. I don't feel like I have so many outlets at the moment. If something needs to be said and I don't want to put it in my main blog, I will find a place to put it, just so it gets put somewhere. It's getting better, but I still feel mentally constipated.

That's all I can think of for now. Not very exciting, I know. But there's not much else to report on except that my D&D monk of Ilmater got to second level by killing a few zombies off. Woo. Drat, I just fudged resolution #1.
