Nerd Dice: Character Background: Abdul the Eshu

Abdul's father was French Canadian and his mother was from Shanghai. Both were wanderers, and settled only briefly in Seattle, where he was born. Naturally his family subsequently moved around a lot until he was eight years old and his parents split. He was passed back and forth between them until he was 15; with interspersed time spent wandering Canada, staying with various aunts and uncles. He could never stay in one place for long, although he visited Bellingham frequently, staying with a favourite uncle who was a professor of Middle-eastern mythology.
When he was 19 he hitched to New York and tried his hand at reporting -- he always seemed to have a nose for stories. Except the things he dug up didn't really interest the Times.... Bored with America, he soon jumped ship to Algiers, intent on seeing Africa and the Middle East. He made his way as a war photographer, drifting through Egypt, Israel, moving around until he ended up in Turkey at 23.
In a seedy bar near the Iraq border he experienced his Chrysalis; fortunately, Eshu are attracted to the correspondent lifestyle, and so he was mentored by one of his friends and companions, helped through his eye-opening transformation.
Abdul was wandering through Europe for a year or so when he heard that his uncle in Bellingham had died. He returned for his funeral, and to receive his bequest. He joined up with Baron Vortex's motley, remembering the sluagh as a reliable information source.
