Nerd Dice: Background: Sergor the Monk

Sergor was left at the Yellow Rose monastary in Damara by a human woman who was not his mother. That is the only information he knows about his origin. He was raised from infancy by the monks, and is content that they are the only family he knows, despite the mystery surrounding his parentage and birth.

Whilst most of the other monks were human, the monastary's record keeper and scribe was a full elf. He was the monk who taught Sergor about his elven heritage and taught him to speak and write Elven. He also taught Sergor how to be a scribe.

Upon reaching the age of majority, Sergor decided to leave the monastary to continue his path toward spiritual perfection elsewhere, in order to learn more about the world and himself. After whetting his appetite for hardship in the mountains and glaciers of Damara, he was drawn to the Western Heartlands because its untamed quality seemed to prove a worthy challenge, and would bring many opportunities to perform good works. Plus he was just tired of being cold.

Sergor's elven ancestry is obvious from his appearance. His relatively small height, green eyes, and pointed ears give him away on sight. But his behavior is very human, for except for his mentor at the monastary, he has had little chance to socialize with elves in Damara. As a traveller, he carries a sack tied to his javelin propped over his shoulder, and is dressed in simple and somewhat grubby monks' robes. His personality is sometimes disjointed; his elven characteristics sometimes clashing with the orderly upbringing of the monastary. Therefore he often seems contradictory-- he can be scholarly and solemn, but when it comes to taking risks in order to help someone he seems like a thrill-seeker. His goal is to overcome his chaotic tendencies in his pursuit of perfection.
